Today’s blog is from Cynthia at Harrington Library:
After the Thin Man (1936) directed by W. S. Van Dyke
It’s New Year’s Eve and those glamorous, martini swilling sleuths Nick and Nora Charles (William Powell and Myrna Loy) are dragged in another investigation when the husband of Selma Landis, Nora’s cousin disappears. The formidable Aunt Katharine wants this kept out of the newspapers and summons Nick to discreetly investigate. The fun and the snappy dialogue follow. The chemistry between Loy and Powell continues (they made fourteen films together) and makes the film sparkle. There are many hilarious scenes including one where the Charles’ dog Asta attempts to eat a clue while Nick and Nora are in pursuit.
This is a worthy sequel to The Thin Man it sparkles with fun, a sense of spontaneity and witty dialogue.
