Parenthood

Today’s post is from Eva at Schimelpfenig Library:

Parenthood (2007) directed by Ron Howard

This is one of the few movies I can watch repeatedly, not merely to laugh at Steve Martin’s portrayal of the uptight Gil Buckman, a man torn between job and parenting duties, but to share in his epiphany on the metaphoric roller coaster as he realizes that he doesn’t have to be SuperDad or rear wonder children.

Because it has such a great ensemble cast, including Jason Robards, Rick Moranis, and Dianne Wiest, the cast interviews on the DVD edition are quite enjoyable.  It’s heartwarming to learn that director Ron Howard and writers Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandell used their own parenting angst as inspiration.
